here is what I don't understand, SRT4 has a bigger turbo, FMIC, larger displacement, lighter, and FWD. if a WRX is equiped with a 16G and FMIC stock. it would be in mid's 13 stock!
point is, I am disappointed with the SRT pefroemace. a 2.4L-T should produce more impressive #s.
(ps, not to mention WRX has 3 cats)

from what i've heard...
only what i've heard...
the srt4 is a bit underrated hp wise...
i think someone told me they put 220something to the wheels...
and tq is like 275, you wonder why he walked you?
i just know that the car is way underrated.
american tq is a killer in a drag race tho...
and mind you, that's what i've HEARD... i'm up for being proved wrong...

EJ20, you answered yourself why the SRT-4 doesn't pull better 14mile times than the WRX. It's FRONT WHEEL DRIVE. There's a reason the "good ol' boys" of drag racing call FF cars "wrong wheel drive": the arrangement isn't suitable for the strip, no matter what Super Street says. Thanks to its commendable AWD driveline, the WRX can out accelerate the potent Neon. A shame, but a truth of physics.
Now, I will say this. The SRT-4 proved last year in the SCCA Pro Rally that it is MORE than capable of dominating 2WD Rally events. It's powerful, bullet-proof in reliability (you get that from using the technology that's been lying around in your warehouses since the early 80's), and quite quite nimble. A more fitting comparison, I'd think, would be to match the car up with its size and price point competitors; Mazdaspeed Protege, SVT Focus, Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V, Volkswagen Golf GTi, and Honda Civic Si.
Can you see now just how good the car is in its segment?

I understand SRT4 are faster car, I just think with all those goodies on the car, it should perform better.

I don't care how fast it is, I'd rather have an Impreza with a longitudinal boxer engine and AWD than a Dodge with a transverse 4 cylinder and FWD. Just my bias of course :hehehe:

i saw the dyno on sport compact car. the car put out more then 225hp at the wheels, and 250ft of torque at the wheels. i forgot the exact numbers, but its definitly higher then the factory rating at the crank.

The SRT-8 Magnum will be a production car according to Chrysler. I am not too excited about it though. It uses the truck version of the Hemi with a s/c. What I long for is the all aluminum Hemi and the reincarnation of a classic. That is what they need to do. They also need to price it against the Mustang and GTO.

Actually, you know what DaimlerChrysler should do? Pull a Fiat and take the SRT-4 running gear and stick it in a tiny two seat mid-engine wedge. Then go Miata hunting. MR2 be damned.

I was never able to get the windows covered to save the interior. I am sure it is trashed by now from the weather.
I am just going to buy the trunk and the rear bumper back for the new one.

First off.. i can spell quite well as i was having a keyboard problem
second .. i've driven several Srt-4 and as my Nephew pointed out it depends on your point of reference.. when i pull up in the Ws6 or the Zr1 of course the Srt is gonna feel tinlike and unrefined.. i got a chance t retry one after coming out of a Stock IS300 5 speed.. i test drove with a 300 lbs Black male sales person and a my newpew 140lbs and i weigh 219...
i does feel like it puls i only and i mean only kept my eye on the speedo.. just not impressive i slowly creeps up the speedo while the exhaust snorts and the bov pisses i'ts nimble but unprecise it does not corner flat and i don't think that in 85+ degree temp it live anywhere near 14.2 1/4mile times.
And if yu guys really wanted an awsome Dode i guess everyone ( including Dode) forgot the RAZOR
kick ass 250 hp rwd all business interior Nice clean but no unneccesary power options.. that car was supposed to lst out at 15-17k and it was hat .. could trot and ifit had ben built would have stolen th Mustangs market as the new compact pony car..
I remeber the days of the GLH and probably am one of the few to own a myriad of early dodge( not mitsu ) turbo's.. i know this each Srt 4 did not impress me.. though the last one seemed more "able than the rest" whick tells me that there are some inconsistencies with production and the interiors were actually quite nice.. and the exterior areneons but aren't all that bad they did the best they could considering it was a flwer child smily ccar when it first came out

so spyk, the fact you have 660lbs of people in the car you think that a sportCOMPACT is going to be able to still do the times it advertises? While your WS6 has enough power to pull hard even under a good deal of weight, the neon relies on a keeping a very low weight to keep the hp/weight ratio fairly high

I know this is a little late man, but I tried getting some off it, but he sold my so called "ugly wheels." Everything under the engine bay is gone, the wheels are gone, the diver's side door is off, and the tailliaghts are gone. I figure I'd better get the bumper and the trunk lid ASAP.

i was trying to say that the last Srt4 i tested felt better than th previos were it was me and just a "normal 180lb ' saleman
Figuring the car will be out on a date .. with a buddy i feel that a 2 person situation more readily represents the cars ability not a 1/8 of a tank of gas a skinny 130lbs driver..
A car from the factory should be tested with full curb weight and a healthy driver.. not a child
for instance the Last 01-02Ws6 Automatics were tested at a whopping 3650 lb .. mine weighs in 3370 and they got 13.01 -13.9 in ten passes.. that real world test and it showed the whole world including the Ford boys the LS1 true magic.. even the 03 Cobra is hard pressed to consistantly hit sub 13
But as i said and i'll reiterate.. watch the speedo if you get the chance to drive one..
I'm not saying its not a fast for what it is car and for the money i'd have to seriosly think about buying it.. but its not all that not in hot temps were i BELIEVE this motor is temperature sensitive than other turbo's like the WRX

i have no need to lie nor worry about an Srt 4 my big guns only come out for money.

To correct my recent previos post ..Pontiac erformance got between 13.01 and 13.11 thats a variance of only .1 in ten or more passes with 2 occupants and 80 degree temperature .. for inquiring minds
and i'm fully awar that Na and Turbo engines react differently totemp situations.. though all engines run better in the cold where air density allows for more timing and fuel in a properly tuned and sensored car

I've beaten a stock Sentra Spec V in my Vision. I think that a stock SRT-4 would have no problem taking out a lightly moded one.

No need to flame ya, everybody is entilted to their own opinion. Weight is a big deal when pulling in 0-60 and 1/4mile times, specifically for sport compacts. The same thing is transversable for motorcycles, just about every 1/4 mile timesheet you see listed from magazines and manufacturers, have a 130-150lb rider. While in real life my 185lb ass really doesn't add too much to the picture, and my 1/4 mile times and such would basically be the same. However looking at it from a advertising standpoint, having a good deal lower times will always look better and sell more, then a high "average" driving situation time.
