Oil Pressure.

Can anyone with a oil pressure gauge tell me how much the pressure fluctuates?

I have seen mine rise as far up as 90psi. :bloated: Is that normal?

When my car is cold mine is way high, like 90+. Once it warms up, during idol it's kind of low like 20. while driving normally it will be around 60.

My dads 98 Silverado has a stock oil pressure gauge, and when he hits the gas it will go from 40 to about 80 and then stay constant around 60 while he is driving.

how do you install oil pressure gauges anyway? I heard you need to tap into the block or screw something in? I will be buying one soon.

It depends. If you buy a mechanical gauge you do need to tap into the oil system somewhere, and run a tube to the gauge. If you buy a electric gauge you splice into or replace the oil pressure sending unit, hook up a few wires and your all set. Either way follow those manufacturer instructions. Later....

I've got a mechanical gage from a former project, how and where would I install it on the d15?

so oil goes from your engine to the gauge on mechanical ones? that sounds pretty freaky, i wouldnt trust on of those heheee!

believe me (exp. talkin) if you dont use the plumbers tape on the threads YOU'LL REGRET IT!!!!!

my 83 bonneville had a permanent oil stain in the carpet after a mishap with the first one I installed.

installing a oil PSI guage is a pain in the but. I have an electrical one. Granted i installed it wehn i was swaping in my ZC so it was cake. But for those who have ther engine in your car...... you have to replace the stock oil sending unit wit the one that comes with hte guage. And in my case the new sending unit was to big for the stock location so i had to buy some extending tubing/piping. but all in all it works good. YES definatly use teflon tape (plumbing tape) or else oil will be leaking.

I haven't completed it yet...but I have all the parts, and I have the part in the block...this would still work if you have a mechanical gauge...I would just recommend running a line to a "T" fitting mounted on the firewall..here is the fitting on my ZC (which has the same fitting as a d15) which I bought as a kit + a few misc. parts from my local Napa for about $12.

It is prolly pretty hard to see with all kinds of other shit in the way...if you have the car up on jackstands, and remove the oil filter, you should be able to see the location on the block. I of course have taken this while the ZC is on the engien stand :cool:

No, not unless you are hitting like 500 psi.

There will be compressed air between the oil, and the actual gauge. The oil in the tube does not even heat up enough to feel warmth through the line.

When I first innstalled mine it leaked at the gauge so it has a little oil in the line...oooops
