hey all
was looking at maybe getting a Ls. my wife loves them and i think there pretty sharp cars. but i did a google search to just find some info, and holy crap. i didnt really find anything that sounded good. alot of complaints about the trannys shifting bad, missing gears, and dont have a tranny dipstick. and lots of engine issues.
are they that bad? i found a 200 i really like it has 64k and a v-8. but now im thinking i go with the 2nd choice a grand prix

It depends quite a bit on the year you get. Most of the issues of the 2000-2002 were remedied for the 2003-2006.

If what you want is inexpensive repairs and that's more important than comfort and standing out, go with the common Grand Prix. If you go with the Grand Prix, don't expect fewer problems, but repairs should be more economical with better part availability.

My wife has a 2000 LS that has 98,000 miles on it. We had the issue with coil packs going bad early on (under warranty), but for the most part it has been a good car. My experience so far has been nickle and dime issues that I have been able to repair myself. I would not recommend this car if you are not interested in getting your hands dirty on occasion, as the cost to have someone do it for you is expensive.

working on the car itself wont bother me at all. its just the same issues i seen over and over that made me nervous. we used to had a 2002 grand prix gt, traded it in after not quite 2 years due to going in 9 times for warrenty work. from tranny valves, wheel bearings and alot of other issues that happened that where not normal stuff to go out on a car that had 43k when we got rid of it.
im gonna look more at 03-06, that sucks because i really like this one, the color and milage and i know the price can go way down:

but i'd rather spend a little more and have less problems i guess.
