headlight assembly cracking

The part of the headlight assembly that holds the nut and bolt for removing the light itself keeps cracking. This enables the nut to spin when I try to take the light out. The first one I replaced was shot completely, the second one which is in now still works on one side so I can pivot it. Is there some sort of fix for this problem? I've been told this is a problem for the Intrepids.
