93 Honda accord with 250,000 miles. We just bought this used honda and drove it 110 miles home on the highway and in stop/go traffic and the car ran perfectly! The car is in original great condition - NO mods to anything!
We changed the wheel and tires, battery and WD40ed key cylinder. Now when the car hits 4000 rpm the engine completly shuts down -dead (moving or not) NO CODES or trouble lights on dash when this happens ? Wait a minute and the car starts right back up. Is this the rev limiter kicking in early and would it completly shut down the engine? and why are there NO codes at all? All dash lights work on ignition on/start. Now I have been researching this on the forum - I do need to check GROUND wires, thinking something came off during battery change. Then on to ECU - is there anything special to reset the ECU outside of unhooking the battery? Then to distributor and so on.
Any tips or help would be nice!

Do a search for MAIN RELAY. That might be your problem (besides bad grounds).
Good luck,
Sam

Thanks, I will. Just seams freaky that when we tried to make things better, a problem like this pops up. Plus, im going to double check the oil level too. The main relay is under the drivers dash right? ah well, back to the manual. I do think Haynes could put just a little more info in there manuals too!

OK heres an update -
Fuel pressure at rail at 25 - 35 OK
New fuel filter
All grounds look and check OK
Found coil not ohming out to specs - Replaced
Went to add gas - car died leaving gas station :disappoin
Problem still there - Still no codes or dash trouble lights, when this happens.
Could the ECU be messed up?
Its seams that if it where the ignition switch or main relay, that it would be more consistant.
Thanks

Here's update #2
Talked to a master mechanic friend and he said to start with the ignition control module in distributor, because of the tach needle bouncing all around when this happins.
Put in a new module and so far NO shutdowns - whooppee!
Will watch over the next week :)
