Weird Static

I'm having some weird trouble with my head unit. I've been using a newer alpine head unit and for some reason whenever I turn volume to about 9 or so it creates a lot of static. This was after I turned my HPF to about 160. Normally I run it at 80 but when I had it at 80 it would be worse. I would have to turn volume up to about 14 and then it would get really quiet and I would have to turn it up to about 20 to even hear and when I did get music I would get really heavy static and sometimes the head unit would just cut out. I'm not sure what the problem is, I've never had the problem with my previous head unit.
Anyone have any tips?:runaround:

I'm going to guess it's just the fact that the internal amp only puts out 16wattsRMS or 45peak(yeah right) to each channel. But I used to have a 200watt Kenwood amp that was hooked up to it. I blew that out a couple of weeks ago.:banghead:

If anyone is wondering about my setup here its: In my 97 Mitsubishi Eclipse

-Alpine CDA-9881
-2 Pioneer 6.5" 3 ways
-2 Pioneer 6x9" 2 ways
-2 10" Kicker L7's In a sealed box (wired in series)
-1 2400 watt Lanzar max pro amp

Most headunits are designed to be at full power (with the internal amp) at the 1 o'clock dial position - so maybe 35 out of 50.
