VW Bora windows steaming up after rain

My VW Bora Diesel has been steaming up on recent months, particularly after rain. Also, the fan seems to be going a bit slower when this happens. It seems clear that moisture is getting in somewhere.

Using the AC helps, but when I switch back to normal air, it mists up again. The immediate cure is to put it on to full heat and full fan and open the windows slighlty as I'm driving along.

Eventually, this seems to dry it out.

A couple of years back, my garage did not replace the pollen filter housing properly and this caused a similar problem. But on that occasion, the carpets got wet. They haven't been recently, so there doesn't seem to be a large leak.

I have read elsewhere that the problem might be caused by the pollen filter needing changing. Has anyone got any experience of this - I can't understand why it would cause these symptoms just after rain.

Has anyone got any other ideas? Any help appreciated.

hey bud try changing the pollen filter,

its normal for any cars windows to fog up. Cold humid air outside-hot humid air inside. When you turn the ac on the humidity level drops inside the car, when you turn it off the humidity level increases dramatically and fogs up.

This was way beyond normal hot air/cold air misting.

fyi, I did replace the pollen filter, which was soaked. Turns out there was a split in the tray that sits above the filter, which leaked through to the filter when it rained heavily. Problem seems to be solved now.

common issue when the person removing the tray breaks the corner tab that sits under the hood lever or cuts the tray to make it go in easier.

Yep, that's pretty much what had happened here. It looks like the garage I use had problems getting the tray out (I can see why - not an impressive piece of design on VW's part) and took a chunk out of the side member and split the base.

I'm trying a temporary solution (gaffer taping the base and hoping it doesn't overflow the side member), as I couldn't get a replacement when I changed the pollen filter and this seems to be working for now. Not sure I've got a lot of confidence it will work for long...
