03 Civic vs 02 Cavalier

My girl has an 02 Cavalier Coupe (115 hp)... and we were racing around town the other day and we stopped at a stop light and took off from a stop. She killed me and my 03 EX Coupe. It's not a drag strip or anything, so I caught up to her around 80 mph and we both just let off, because the speed limit is like 55. But, what I was thinking is because her car car has 135@3600 torque and mine has 114@4800, I assume that's why she beat me so bad off the line. My car has 127 horse stock, but I had my AEM intake and muffler installed and she still beat me. So my question is this- if we raced down a 1/4 mile strip- would my Civ catch up and give her a taste of the exhaust or what?

Frist ? is you a good driver. A large percent of racing is your ability. Ive spanked Celica GTSs in my 93 integra cause the driver sucked. And the torque would make a lil difference. Try her on the track if you caught up to her by 80 you should be able to catch her in a 1/4. Cavaliers arent that great.

What do you have in your hatch? Anyway you look at it you would get spanked of the line if you're correct on her torque unless you have an H22.

Yeah, that torque is correct.. We both have autos and i'm not lookin to fuck the car up by keeping it in gear... But hopefully my header that I'm getting will kick it up a notch or so...

Don't expect to much. A CAI does more for torque than a header.

yah, but i dont even have a cold air.. only a shortram. from what i've heard its not as powerful as the cold air... But they dont make the CAI for the auto civics my year.

ok im really sick of people asking me why they coudnt beat this other person even though they have a CAI, exhaust and headers. do you people have any idea of what difference those mods make? on our already well built and decent flowing engines all 3 of those mods together yield a MAXIMUM of 20hp. not the advertised 15+hp per item.. it just doesnt work that way. those mods might bring your quarter mile time down like 0.2 seconds.. those are just starting mods. they are not there to make the difference in a close race. so dont expect even that header youre getting to help very much. my friends are the same way.. they get a CAI and think they can smoke everyone. then when they cant smoke other people they come to me crying and asking why.
the only advice i could give you is that yes in a 1/4 mile im almost positive that you could beat her. you have a much better top end. but understand most street races never last that long. and also try holding down the brake and only revving the car to about 1800 rpm. then when the light turns green let go of the brake and floor it when you get going. auto trannies tend to react better that way instead of redlining it
hope this helped

Hey man, I'm a newbie to cars and shit... i'm just asking advice for those parts myself... I heard that headers add to the quickness a bit.. i'm low on cash at this point and tryin to figure out any cheap stuff to do for this car. any suggestions?
i'll try that tip next time we go out.. let ya know the results, hopefully i can get some bragging rights ;-)

well 80mph is 17 flat in the 1/4. idk how fast your car suppose to be in teh 1/4, but if your going faster than her at 80 then you probably got her beat in the 1/4. you guys should just take it to the track and race it out

the beating the gts was in my 93 integra it was a girl driving didnt know what the hel she was doing this isnt the greastest thing but was making a point on driving makeing a difference. im getting the civic hatch soon though
And edman shut the hell up hes just asking. and on a more positive note in testing conditions the AEM CAI made 20 more horses to the wheels with no other mods in a RSX this wasdone by a magazine not by the company either. pop a laxative and get rid of all the bulls**T
Oh and goodluck with civic man youre on a good start

if you really want power get a manual tranny.......forget all the bs mods your listing its an auto if you wanna race it get a mt
and edman not every single engine is the same...some things will create more power on different engines cuz their not all the same

i know that some engines react differently to mods. and yes i did see the dyno of the rsx type-s with the cold air intake and how it added 18hp. but does he have an rsx type s? no. and yes i understand youre a newbie and dont have crazy amount of cash right now but i wasnt in a good mood and it might have sounded a little harsh but it wasnt meant that way. just know those little mods wont do much for you car. let me know how that brake and gas advice i gave you works out
and yes i understand that certain engines react differently. for instance a 95 corvette gets about 30hp when replacing the headers and intake. i know that. but i was basing my opinion off his car and most others for that matter. but i did say "our cars" which in itself means hondas in general. and what other honda makes 18hp or more off a cold air intake except the rsx type s? none that i know of.
hey and weed eater i think youre the one who needs to chill out. you took what i said and turned it into fightin words. believe me, if i wanted to argue or get mad at someone it would be very obvious

Yah, I know I should have gotten a MT, and now I regret it... but I thought I'd be riding in a lot of traffic for work everyday, and I didn't know how to drive a MT so I just thought I'd get an auto. Once I drove this Civic I kicked myself in the ass about a million times. But, I'm gonna try to get this auto decently quick... without putting a turbo or anything too too expensive in. I am gonna get the header, and hopefully I'll figure out something under 1g to get next. But I love the car, and I'm all about working it.. and maybe I wont be taking on any Vette's anytime soon, but hopefully I'll run a decent time in the next few years...
Thanks for your opinions

something under 1g to get next how about a manual transmission? not sure about the cost of one for a newer civic but go around to shops and get it priced....cant hurt none

MT huh... well its brand new with under 10000 miles on it so far.. maybe in a couple of thousand miles I might think about replacing the tranny, but won't I have to re-do the engine too? Could I just change the tranny? That seems like a good idea, but thats down the line a year or two

no just change the tranny...and maybe ecu..i dunno about the new hondas very much, but i think a mt will make your car faster than anything you buy to mod it
