Scratchbuilt fuel rails

Can anyone here give me some advise on how to go about building fuel rails? If anyone has some photos of one that they built that would help also. Thanks in advance.

Fuel lines can be made from electric wires of various sizes, but this is very specific to each engine.
Which car or engine are you talking about?

I was thinking about this lastnight, and i found some rectangular prism like balsa wood that you cood make some out of. The dimensions are as follows
H=2mm
W=3mm
L=30cm

I used the metric system because it matches up easier.

Be alot of work to scratch build one...you would be better off buying a kit and detailing it

hirofkd: The engine i am talking about is a small block chevy with hilborn fuel injection. so i am going to need one for each cylinder bank.

Are you modeling an original set-up with the mechanical pump, or an EFI conversion?

i think that p-man was tought u ment top-fuel dragster rail cars :)

but u can use small piece of styrene for the rail and phone cord wires for the wiring :)

Murco: This is the set up im going for. But i will be adding NOS jets too.

I think my idea has been the bast so far. When you say NOS jets to you mean a whole fogger system and injectors?

GTmike400: yeah i want to make and install as much of a fogger system as possible. I have a step by step how to for a real car that should lend its self to this project very well.

A WHOLE fogger system is pretty sweet. I want to make one but im not sure what to use.

I have a magazine article on a 1/12 Corvette (highly modified) with those things in the picture that you posted, only in the magazine they are called velocity stacks. I am not sure whether they are the same thing as what you are after but heres what it says in the magazine:

"Velocity stacks have been made up from aluminium tube with netting over the top cut from a discarded razor screen".

Well, If you have a lathe the stacks will be easy. If not, chuck a 2"x1/8" aluminium tube in a drill, center the hole on a pointed piece of metal in a vise (I used a .22 bullet), and run the drill at medium speed until the end flares like you want. Polish it while in the chuck with a metal polish. Cut the tube to desired lenghth, make 7 more, and your done with the tubes.
The base is easier! Just make one from styrene sheet to cover the plenum and ports, smooth and attach. The fuel rails can be thin straight aluminum or brass tubes or a syringe, my favorite! Attach the rails to the tubes with very thin solder rolled with a flat file, add fittings, and paint the lines silver - looks like perfect braided lines! Pressure regulators, linkages, crossovers, and fittings can be made with the same techniques.
Foggers would add more complexity that wouldn't really be appreciated on this set-up (hard to see!) but if you want them use thin electric guitar string for the lines (polish them, you'll be amazed!) as they hold a shape the best, make solenoids from sprue slices, and use the "braided-line" trick from earlier. Electrical lines are best made from the braided wires inside of.... electrical wire! The thinner the better.
An intake like this will be appearing on my next project...

Thanks for all the help.

I will post picts as soon as i make some good progress. This may be awhile because my modeling room was taken over by a guest. You never realize all the modleing stuff you have untill you have to put it all away and find good spots for it all!
