broken sway bar

I have a 2000 Buick Century with 127000 miles and it has a broken stabilizer (sway) bar. Can the thing be welded safely - instead of replacing? Is it safe to continue driving it until the repair is made? I drive about 60 miles a day over crappy roads full of huge potholes that I suspect had something to do with it breaking.

If we replace the bar, can it be replaced fairly easily?

You can continue to drive the vehicle with the broken sway bar but watch those sharp curves. Don't waste your time and money welding it as they are not that expensive nor are they hard to replace. Check gmpartsdirect.com or rockauto.com for a new one. They can be replaced with simple hand tools a jack and a couple of jack stands.

The same thing happened to my 2001 about 6 mos ago. You may have already, but Id suggest you go ahead and just get a new one. If I recall correctly, they are built stronger and sturdier than the crappy ones GM shipped with the car. I cant really remember how much I paid... But that's a good thing right? :) Maybe around 150 at the shop

Well after calling several dealerships, Oreillys & Autozone and a couple of salvage yards, finally was able to get a new one shipped from Michigan to the dealer I bought the car from. Years ago, my husband took out and welded a rear stabilizer bar on a Pontiac, but this is the front. The dealer told me you had to hoist the transmission up to put it on??? Does that sound right? My husband doesn't think there was that much involved, but the flu kind of prevented him from being too ambitious about checking it out. Is there more involved since it's the front? Since the dealer has the part, and my husband has the flu, I'm just going to let the dealer put it on.
