Doing brake job on 2000 gtp, any suggestions on rotors and pads, just every day driver, no need for performance parts. Metallic, ceramic???? Was thinking Duralast from autozone? thanks

I'm replacing the rear brake pads on my car. And for peace of mind, I'm going with AC Delco brake pads, for around $55. Not much more than the ones at Autozone.

Raybestos Professional Grade Plus on the rotors and Performance Friction Carbon-Metallic pads. I've tested and used various ceramic pads including the Hawk brand over the years and I like this combo for wear, reliability, reasonable cost and overall stopping power. That is all I use now on all my GM cars.

Bob, I haven't used your prefered brand yet, and I know the stopping power is noticably better, but how is the brake dust, if any, on your wheels compared to ceramic?

Good emphasis Paul! My preferred brand which may not work for others. Just my humble recommendation. You will still get brake dust but it is not that bad. Somewheres in the middle between ceramic and the regular semi-metallic. But the stopping power until the ABS kicks in is great. But I need stopping over cosmetic concerns like brake dust at the track. Not much distance after a 1/4 mile shutdown until you wind up in desert. But I've switched to the same combo in all my GM cars which is my daily driver '01 Regal GS, wife's '99 Regal LS and son's '02 Olds Alero GL2. Just did the Alero brakes (all 4) a few weeks ago before he left back for college with new front AC Delco hubs and my son was amazed. His final comment was "who cares about the brake dust". Plus he needed something better for all the mods we did on it. What good are mods that make it faster when your brakes suck.

Auto-Rice-Zone Duralast rotors are made in China and are pure junk, when compared to Raysbestos PG Plus! I agree with Bob, pay the extra 15 bucks ea for quality, durability, balance, weight and cooling capacity. You can get the PG plus rotors @ Advanced for 45-bucks ea and have many happy miles ahead. These are as good as you can get for an “every day driver”.

I drive hard & stop hard, so therefore, I know what last when it comes to rotors. I have “been there and done that” with the Duralast rotors/pads and they warped in 6-months! In addition, with Duralast parts, it was as if the car would never stop when doing 90 mph +. They did work ok under 60 mph, sometimes! :p

Pads are a personal preference, I do not like brake dust on my wheels, so therefore, I use Bendix CT (Ceramic Technology) pads on my Ultra. This combination stops on a dime and gives you 9-cents change, with all the additional benefits of no, (0) brake dust! :grinyes:

What good are mods that make it faster when your brakes suck Yeah Bob, I went through that with the Z28 several years ago. The faster it got, the worse the brakes were! Then when it was getting so fast it was dangerous, it was time for a brake upgrade! I installed the LS1 spindles, dual piston calipers & 12" KVR drilled rotors, shown below. BTW, nice job on your brake pic!
