Wiper fault?

Hi all,
I own a 2000 mk4 astra 1.6 club.
After a snow fall & my wipers having to work hard to clear snow off my windscreen yesterday. I am now experiencing a problem with my wipers when on intermittent/timed wipe setting. The wiper blades are stopping half way across the screen, I can hear the relay clicking in. Instead of covering the whole screen, they're stopping & sometimes only moving a couple of inches at a time. The fault doesn't occur when wipers are on continuous. I was thinking about changing the relay first.
Or could it be a faulty wiper stalk? Motor? Any idea's?
Help much appreciated.
Thanks.
George.

Hi George
I had the same problem with my 2001 astra what i found was that the Drainage Holes that are near to the wiper Spindals that come up from the wiper moter get blocked and the splined spindals that the wiper arms connect to then lay in water, i found that the splined pins had started to corode because of laying in water, you will have to take the whole moter assembly out and check to see if the pivits Shafts have gone rusty.
You can try to re grease them if they are not to badly coroded, and make the Drainage Holes a little Bigger because i think that they are to small and block up with dirt.:grinyes:
