Windshield wiper problems!!!...

A while back my windshield wipers on my 1990 S10 started going bezerk. When I'd cut them on, they'd fun fine but when I tried to turn them off, they wouldn't stop wiping right away even though I had already turned off the switch. When they did cut off, they would stop halfway on the windshield, so I'd have to turn them on again until I timed it just right so that they would go all the way down and stay down.

It was like this for a few months, but as long as they came on I didn't worry. Well, after a while they stopped malfunctioning. They would stop whenever I turned them off and I had no problems with it. Then one day I tried to turn them on and they wouldn't come on at all. There was a quiet whining sound coming from the left side under the hood so I was pretty sure the windshield wiper motor had gone out. For a few weeks they didn't work. But just today I tried to turn them on, the pump made that whining sound, but then the wipers started working again!! So far today they have worked with no problems.

I thought the windshield wiper motor had gone out, but if it had, would the wipers have started working again? Methinks it could be an electrical problem somewhere...
