Sounds like your heater core is leaking. The tan in your coolant is rust from not being serviced.

Thank you for your help... I just had the radiator replaced engine flushed and now deal with the water noise issue. Sounds like your heater core is leaking. The tan in your coolant is rust from not being serviced.

My engine just started knocking today. I had the oil changed, went with a heavier oil and used lucas oil treatment to see if it would quiet the engine, but it did not. Any suggestions?

How hard is it to replace a heater core?

the heater core replacement is very time involved, I have done many of them, not necessarily for heater cores but mostly because of evaprator cores, but the process is still the same and I would since your in there replace the evap core. Well anyways the core replacement involve removing the entire dash from the firewall.
one thing I recommend is removing the drivers seat so you will be able to drop the steering column down farther to make the job a little easier.

I had the same problem on my old jeep I had, the oil was clean on the dipstick, but if you pulled the blow by hose off you would see the milky oil. It was a bad head.

The problem i`m having is water sloushing behind the glove box. Can that be the heater core? I was told that since i replaced the radiator there can be air in the line. Can that be possible?

You may have air in the system - what year is your jeep and engine? If you're low on coolant it may be running hot making that knock worse.
If you've got a rod knock, it will only get worse and you need a engine rebuild. The heater core will be the least of your problems. I wouldn't consider a heater core unless you've got water leaking out of it. Between the motor and the heater core - I'd look for a new car....
Considering it started w/ the radiator replace and the slushing sound and all - I would bet that baby's low on antifreeze. Look for the highest point in the system and see if there's vent screw or something. Open the vent, start it cold and let it warm until juice comes out of the vent - all the time making sure the radiator is full.
If you're still getting a knock (with a full radiator and thick oil) look for a new vehical.

there is no bleeder on jeeps. The sloshing is deffinately signs of low coolant or even a partially clogged heater core. replacement is not needed.
To flush the heater core get a water hose (from a clothes washing machine), the hoses that connects the hot/cold water to the machine, cut it about 8 in up from 1 of the end. these hoses are the perfect outside diameter to fit inside your jeeps heater hoses. remove the heater hoses from the jeep (at the engine) and slide these hoses into them. and hook up your garden hose and turn the water onwhen it starts to run clear switch the hoses.
***NOTE: you could cut the hoses in half but I like to have one longer so I can set it over the fender and let it drain on the outside of the jeep.

does your vehicle have A/C? .If so, I don't think you have a leaking heater core. with a leaking core you would have coolant on the floorboard, fogging windshield, the smell and maybe even the taste of coolant as well as low coolant. if you don't have one or more of these problems your core is probably all right. If you have A/C, check for a plugged drain coming from the evaporator box. A very common problem, drain gets plugged, condensate can't escape.

I have a/c and heat no leacks . I check all drain lines. I know there is one under the glove box. Do you know of any others.

Sounds like you could have a clogged evaporator. Does it drain when you run the AC? If not do the TSB http://home.sc.rr.com/janet/TSB/24-06-96.htm
Replacing the evaporator is not a job for the faint of heart. But if you want to take it on here's the instructions: http://home.sc.rr.com/janet/TSB/24-02-98R.htm

blown headgaskets in the 4.0L engine is a very common thing. I would fix it, they are not that bad to do in the I6 engines.

I have the v8 4.7 engine. It has 158,000 miles on it. What do you think a job like this will run me?

I don't have a labor guide in front of me, but your probably looking at between $700-$1000. I just put new headgaskets on my ZJ 5.9Limited3 weeks ago and it took me about 8 hours all in all, but I am sure book time was higher then that.

Do you think the price is right?
