Wifes 2000 Sunfire Engine Shaking

Last week we had a nice snow storm, after the storm I went to start the car and tried to back her up but she was stuck in the snow....I rocked her back and forth a bit, and then she cut out. I lifted the hood and the engine was fully covered in snow. :uhoh:
After I started her again, the engine is shaking quite a bit and she won't move. She hardly idles, the check engine light comes on and if I try to hit the gas she'll die. While she's idling(shaking) it seems like theres a lot of exhaust and a smell of gas in it.
I'm wonderin if the coil pack shorted out ? Someone told me it could be the timing...but I dunno, I'm tight on cash and if its the coil pack, I can simply buy one and replace it myself vs getting it towed, diagnosed, charged a ridiculuous shope rate, etc.
Any ideas ? Is it possible to somehow check and see if the coil pack is bad ?

the car has the 2.2L correct? the coil packs are located near the bottom of the motor on the firewall side. I'm thinking that maybe you could have knocked a plugwire or 2 off the coil pack

your best bet would be to first get the codes scanned to see what is throwing the SES light. most likely you are going to have a misfire code. see what cylinder it is, then that will break down your problem

Not sure of the engine size, but its not underneath. It's on the drivers side of the motor and ontop. Easily accesable. I can see the the numbers 1-4 on both the coils. Any ideas ? I'd like to diganose this myself instead of tossig away $100 in a tow and a dignostic. I know my old sunbird the coil packs were on the backside of the motor, and if i recall, theres 2 coils, and a ECU underneath them ?

disconnect the negitive battery cable for 10 mins or so, this will reset the PCM error memory, and make the SES light to away.
