1995 C1500 Died

Was driving my 95 c1500 Pick up yesterday (over 20 miles) and it just died, just like I turned the key off. Will crank and crank, but won't start. The fuel pump is not working. I changed the relay today, but still nothing. Banged on the fuel tank, nothing. The truck hasn't acted up, sputtered, or anything, just died in the driveway.

I checked the lugs where the relay plugs in, I am getting power on the 87 terminal at all times but nothing on any of the other lugs. Key on or off only on 87, is that right? Shouldn't there be another lug with power, the trigger? Is there another fuse or relay somewhere else?

Welcome to AF. Check the wiring diagrams and info at autozone.com, repair guides for info. Make sure you have a ground also in that circuit.

It is a 95 Chevy C1500 W/T. It is a Conversion truck, was originally a 4.3 but sent to the conversion place and a 350 TBI installed. Sold as a V-8 but started and titled as a V-6. I have checked every fuse in the under hood fuse/relay box and every fuse in the panel on the side of the dash. I have replaced the relay and nothing. I am getting full 12v on the 87 lug all the time. I am getting .3v on the 85 lug with the key off and it goes up to between 1.5-3v when I first turn the key on but drops right back off. The fuel pump doesn't come on then. I can cross it over with a jumper wire from 87-30 lugs and the fuel pump comes on, but sounds weak. Battery voltage is at 12.4v.

I have tried to check for spark at the #1 plug and am getting nothing. I first started with a spark checker, older and not sure if it worked. Next, tried a screwdriver in the wire, didn't see an arc. Finally, I turned my voltmeter to 1000 volts/HV setting and still got nothing.

So apparently, I am not getting the fuel pump on and no spark.

The wiring for the pump and ign are basically the same for both engines ,again a diagram will point you to how these circuits are powered and grounded.

Can't say for sure on your '95 (I'm a '96-00 guy) but I would suspect an ignition sw problem.

When my "93 died, it was the fuel pump. One minute, sitting at a red light, next minute, nothing. Cranks just fine, just would not fire.

Well, I've been pretty busy and have another car to drive. I actually got to change the ignition module, coil and didn't start. Didn't fix the problem but they needed replacing, maybe cured a problem in the future.

I am going to take it to a guy I know that is a GM mechanic. I have pretty much narrowed it down to the ignition switch or fuel pump. Hope to get it fixed soon.
