I have a 2000 chevy lumina the problem is that the car will not start at times no power to the starter. I know about the chip in the key, I have try three different sets of key still would not start sometime I have to let it sit for an hour before it will start. One dealership said to try to reprogram the key by turning the key to on and let it sit for 10 min. Most times the car run great What is causing this problem

i have the same problem, only mine restarts in 5 minutes usually.

Lumina = worst car ever made by Chevy.

Hey everyone, I had this same problem on my 1996 Lumina. I also had three different keys and it would not start randomly. I had to wait exactly 3 minutes for it to start. My problem wasn’t with the key, it was within the ignition itself. I sprayed some electrical contact cleaner in the ignition and some on the key and kept inserting it into the ignition and whipping the key off until it wasn’t leaving a black residue anymore. Ever since cleaning the ignition it has been starting great. *knock on wood*

If it starts becoming a problem again I will probably bypass the VATS system as discussed in this link:
