engine turn off when switch to D

Engine starts with no problem but when I switch from P to D...engine dies right away. Please help. Thanks

More info would help. Year; engine size; trans. Does it do it in rev? How does it restart?

This is 1999 Caravan, 3.3. Engine starts with no problem, when the gear switch to R, N, D, D1, D2..engine dies..My friend told me it could be the idle air control valve, I need second opinion. Thanks for your reply

Yes It could be a cause for it to stall. Especially if the throttle blade is very dirty.
