Hi everyone...new here

I have a 92 Jetta (German version, not mexican), with a 1.8L SOHC, AT, PS, and A/C, and 112,000 miles. I just got the car, and it needed an alternator belt, and CV axles. I replaced all that...then in my infinate wisdom...decided to look around and see what else needed to be done (STUPID ME).

It also looked like it could use a timing belt (cracked looking), a coolant flange (was leaking), and a cam seal (also was leaking). So i replaced the cam seal, the timing belt, coolant flange, cap & rotor (just because), and plugs (also just because, and using Bosch Platinum Plus gapped at .028 vs. the Autolite's gapped at like 1/2" that were in it!). Now the car won't start!!!! I've been through the Hayes manual 50 times and had the timing belt on and off about 49 times (being sarcastic but not far off). I've lined up all the timing marks on both sides of the engine (fly wheel ring also), the intermediate shaft, and cam shaft...and all it does is turn over. I'm getting spark to ALL plugs (verified by timing light and actually pulling each one)...and I'm smelling gas on the plugs, and they appear wet with fuel also. I also smell gas in the oil (checked by smelling inside filler cap)...or so it seems (hard to tell cause gas oder is strong, and travels easily).

Also...is there some special tool to reach the A/C compressor tension adjustment bolts (both the 13mm and the 22mm ones)... I went as far as buying a complete Craftsman stubby wrench set ($60+), and it's still too long to get between the compressor and the radiator/radiator bracket!

One last thing...where can I find the timing belt tension adjustment tool, and a factory service manual??? Local dealer doesn't stock either, said it'll take about 2 months to get either one in...and I need this car on the road ASAP to save gas!!!

I'm at wits end!!! If ANYONE has any ideas...please send an email or post.

Thanks...
Dave
