need to get to work but have bad motor shimmy when accelerating and at idle speed anyone with a similar problem and a fix???

It could be:
bad gas
plugged fuel filter
needs a tune-up

its a 97 with a v6 4wd 3.2l also check engine light is on and flashing

flashing typically means a miss-fire.

If there is a CEL then you can go to Autozone and have the code read for free.

have changed plugs already and still doing the same thing is there any way to tell if the coils are bad or might it be bad compresion

Sounds like a coil pack went bad. Easy way to figure out which cylinder it is? Get a scan. Slightly more time consuming way? Start pulling the plugs. Whichever plug is wet is the one that is misfiring. To confirm, move the coilpack and see if the miss follows. When one went bad in my truck, it felt like it was chugging. Is that what you mean by shimmy?

it might be more of a chug hard to tell but about the coil packs any idea of what vehicles would have ones that would fit

95-97 Rodeo or Passport with the 3.2L V6 monster under its hood.
