Hamilton promised LM with title

Hello, I'm new but have been reading for some time, I read somewhere in an old post about Mclaren giving an F1 to Hamilton if he won 2 drivers title. This is from the F1 live page of today:

Lewis Hamilton has been promised a $4 million McLaren supercar for free - if he wins the world titles this year.

The 23-year-old British driver told The Sun newspaper that he first clapped eyes on the ultra-rare McLaren LM in the team's F1 factory ten years ago.
"When I first went to Mclaren it was there and I fell in love with it" he said of the orange LM, one of only five such cars in the world.
Dennis, 60, says Hamilton can have the car if he wins the 2008 title, and McLaren is crowned constructors' champion.
"Fortunately, our deal gives me a bit of time to save up!" Dennis joked.
Hamilton currently leads the drivers' title from Kimi Raikkonen by three points, while McLaren sits five points ahead of BMW Sauber in the teams' standings.

So, is the LM worth 4 million?....wow....and I tought it was 2 drivers championships....now only one......care to comment?

I saw that article in a number of places on the F1 news boards. All king Hami has to do is win the title. One problemo - it's a long way to the end of the season and Lewis has not been the dominant factor that he was last year. A lot can change throughout the year. :dunno: Wonder why Ron didn't make the same offer to Heikki Kovalainen. But hay king Hami is Ron's precious little child, so he can do what he wants.

I believe that Ralph Lauren paid $2.75 mil for the last one that was sold. Peleton will correct me if I'm wrong.

 Wonder why Ron didn't make the same offer to Heikki????

Because as Alonso found out, Lewis is Rons wannabe adopted child ;)

As for the price, #018 was recently sold for £1.8m, so ~£2m for XP1LM seems like a good deal

You know whats ironic? that Heikki has to "help" Hamilton to get this Mclaren LM lol!! Because he has to score the most points in order to win the Constructors Title, but if Massa keeps driving like a moron I dont see a problem.:evillol:

This story came out last year when Hamilton was really starting to show some promise and Tim posted a thread about it:

Lewis Hamilton could become the owner of a McLaren F1 LM ? (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=757778)

Last year the stakes seemed higher - he needed 2 WDCs within 3 years to get the LM as I recall.

Autoblog (http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/27/hamilton-promised-4m-mclaren-f1-lm-for-winning-title/) states he has to win the WDC and he has to get Heiiki on board to win the Constructors Championship in the same season before he gets his Swiss mits on the LM.

If Hamilton's lacklustre/abysmal performance at Bahrain last weekend is indicitive of how his season's going to go this season ... The LM will be sitting in McLaren HQ for a wee while longer.

Lewis came very close to losing it "again"

He would not have looked very "cool" then :chair:

Not sure he is a real champ yet!! Most of the greats have had the championship sown up by two thirds of the season.

a piece from this article says a lot..

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/71988

....And there remains a huge incentive to add more world championship tallies to his roster. Last season he had a bet with McLaren boss Ron Dennis that if he won three world title, Hamilton would be given a McLaren F1 LM road car.

"I want to get this (McLaren F1) car, so I will definitely work as hard as I can to get to number three at some stage," smiled Hamilton....

1 down 2 to go..

Interesting - the parameters for Lewis earning the car seem to change with every article. It's definitely a unique incentive - part of me hopes that he won't get it because that would leave McLaren without an LM in their museum which may open someday.

it seams Hami himself said he needs another 2 WDCs to get the LM..

"So I stop, open it up, smell it, and it's all carbon, fresh, new, number one out of five.

"It's probably the most expensive, the most beautiful car in the whole world, and that's the one I want.

"I want to win this car off Ron, so I will work as hard as I can to get to three (titles) at some stage."

From the article - a quote from Ron Dennis apparently:

""This particular car is the rarest of the F1s."

Everybody underestimates the GT, I would choose xp54gt any day over xp1lm.
