Finished: Fujimi Ferrari F355 Spider conversion!

Dudes and dudettes, don't try this at home! The Fujimi 355's are very challenging to build, I'm so happy to have this conversion finished! The conversion consisted of many aspects of modeling techniques including:cutting the roof of a Berlinetta kit, casting the buttresses from a Maisto 355 Spider and transfering them onto the Fujimi, molding in side coves and buttresses, cutting the engine cover free and opening all the slat vents, installing an simplified engine from the Maisto 355 etc. Overall I'm very happy with it except for the wide door panel lines, I should have took care of those in the early stages. Anywho, it's painted with TS 16 Yellow and cleared with two coats of TS Clear then polished. The interior consist of different shades of custom mixed off black's to keep it from looking too stark.
The kit tail lights wouldn't protrude throught the tail panel holes like they're suppose to so I had to seperate the one piece parts, reshape the lights and install them from the outside so they would look like the real 355's. They are out a little too far now, I will correct that after this weekends model show.

Here you can see the buttresses and the photo etched Ferrari emblem and horse from Replica's and Miniatures of Maryland. The silver snap buttons on the top boot are straight sewing pins that were cut off and put through drilled holes. The engine cover is glued on, my intension was to have the engine visible throught the vents but you can hardly see it, good thing it wasn't much work for the engine install!

Here you get a good look at the panel lines which were mostly done with a .005 pen, the side horizontal lines are pin stripe decal. The Ferrari emblem is made by Museum Collection, it consist of a relief etched emblem and a decal applied onto it for a three dimensional effect.

The door panel lines are much wider than I wanted. The brake calipers painted red with white Ferrari decals on them, the wheels were dechromed and painted with TS 17 Gloss Aluminum then cleared.
http://www.infinite1der.org/~dino/355fin17.JPG
The interior consist of kit tub and seats, the door panels are from a 348 and incorrect for the 355, Fujimi didn't supply panels in the 355 kit. I had to use the Maisto dash because it matched to shape of the door panels. The etched rings around the gauges are from Replica's and Miniatures and are called Wizard's O's. I used the metal transfer shift gate from a Tamiya Mytho's, the sifter is a round headed straight pin. I made the seat belt recievers from styrene strips and the horses on the floor are explained in another progress thread.

EXCELLENT JOB! An inspiration for me to work on and finish my spider! What exactly did you do to the rear tail lights? I need to do that to mine also.

Thanks! You're right, it looks creamy, I have trouble photographing yellow's and red's with my camera, they either show up on the computer as being too strong or too weak. The sun hasn't been out here for two weeks, I really wanted to shoot it outside.:)

I think those panel lines are far to dark and wide and dont suit the car at all !! :finger: :finger: :finger: :finger: ...Nah, just joking mate :D ....just felt like a bit of a stiring :p

Very nice look kit. The yellow is lighter then i thought it would be(maybe its the pic's or my computer), but it really suits the look of the car.
The paint and panel lines look excellant.
I've looked at the photo's over and over, and i'm very impressed :flash: :flash: :flash:

Very realistic looking model, I really like all the little details you added.
Any guess on the total cost of this car? With all the aftermarket parts and whatnot it must have been fairly spendy.

Awesome job!! I'm totally impressed. Gives me inspiration to do better work on my own models.
Question:
The Ferrari emblem is made by Museum Collection, it consist of a relief etched emblem and a decal applied onto it for a three dimensional effect.
Is the clear part of the decal visible over the photoetched emblem, in the spaces between the horse and the border and such? Or is it a "Hi-Tech" decal that leaves no clear backing?

Thanks! The etched emblem has all the texture of the images, the decal is just a regular type water slide decal. The real emblems have a smooth clear coating on them. The texture of the etch piece is hardly noticable with the decal on it, I did however brush a little clear on to the decal. I suppose one could hand paint one of these etched pieces, then clear and polish it, it would then look like a real enameled emblem.:)

Kick ass model... I got to sit in one to day. The F1 with paddle shifting but this one is so nice. I cant what till I get an air brush so I can paint my 959... I’m hoping the hood conversion works out but that’s another story.
