So some guy robbed a bank here today...

Only the 5th bank robbery in 20 years...

He got away with less than $200, in $2 bills!!!

He could've robbed a damn candy machine and gotten more money! But no, rob a bank. He was armed, so it was a 2nd degree felony.

The police have a few suspects now..but haven't caught the guy for sure. I bet it'll be easy for him to spend the $2 bills. Those are quite common. They have him on video, wearing a rather distinctive parka.

Anyone else have any dumb criminal stories?

Here in Sydney a couple of years ago, some genius stole his Dads new Subaru WRX, tied the rear axle somehow to an ATM machine. He dumped it at about 6k RPM and ripped the back half of his Dads 2 day old car off. Then got caught in the act. Got about 5 years gaol and fucking huge fine. Not to mention being disowned by his family.

Let me clarify, for those of you non-US people, $2 bills are pretty darned rare. I've seen fewer than 10 in my entire life.

According to the US treasury, there are currently 6.25 times as many $100 bills in circulation as there are $2 bills...

I think they've been out of print for 20 to perhaps 25 years now. Like you, boingo, I've seen perhaps fewer than 10 in my lifetime.

Printed a bunch in 1976, then some more in 1996.

My point exactly, Jimmy, people are going to notice when he shows up with fistfulls of $2 bills...he didn't request them either, that's just what the teller had on hand. Smart teller. :)

Where at Boingo? I actually have several $2 in my collection. I think 2 of them were printed before 1976...I'll have to check later on at home. One of them has a stamp and a postmark from April 1976 on it. Too bad they are worth much yet :(

I have 2 $2 bills at home. I'm pretty sure they were probably printed in 1996, though. I just keep them b/c it's not fun to spend them. People always seem to think that they're fake or something. :bloated:

Congrats on the Teller for giving him such a rarity. ;)

When I worked at blockbuster video about 6 years ago, some guy came into the store, and I watched him grab some disney movies off the shelves, he stuck them in his coat, and started to walk out the door. The security alarm went off, and when I asked him to stop, he bolted. Anyways, it was the middle of winter, and there was lots of snow and ice on the ground, but I chased after him anyways.

He tried to run across the busy street right next to the store, and there were several cars/trucks stopped at the stoplight, and he tried to run between them... He ended up sliding SMACK into a floral delivery van and breaking his nose and getting knocked out. I just stopped and laughed my ass off, then me and some witnesses pulled him to the side of the road and held him until the cops showed up.

He had about $200 worth of disney movies on him that went flying when he hit the van... I haven't laughed that hard since.

The whole $2 thing makes sense now. Thanks. Here in Aus, we don't have any notes smaller than $5. $1 and $2 are coins. And we don't have any 1c or 2c coins, so everything gets rounded to nearest 5. Was a royal PITA in the States and Canada to pay weird amounts (to me) like $1.77 for something. Oz

Every household usually has or has had at least one $2 bill, but those are the only ones a person ever sees.

about Blockbuster LMAO!!!!!!

I was in Blockbuster once and this guy cleared it out, I was laughing my ass off the whole time he was working. he had a big garbage bag and just walked around the store dumping the tapes into the bag. Then he was standing up front pretending to look at a magazine, when everyone had their back turned he just walked right out the IN door with no alarm LOL! One guy kinda saw him walk out that door but didn't pay any attention to it..... pretty slick

A few years back, when it cost $6 to park at Disneyland, the parking lot toll booths gave 2 $2 bills as change to everyone paying with a $10 or $20. The first thing anyone tried to do when the got inside the park was buy something to get rid of those bills.

When my wife worked at the Virgin Megastore, I used to hang out with the Loss Prevention guys, and they always had some fantastic stories. :lol2:
