Use a DVOM check the voltage to the coil if it is 12 volt go to this next step.
Use a 12 volt test light put it on the coil negative have somebody try to start the car. The test light should blink fairly quickly. If it doesn't blink replace the pickup in the distributor.
From the year it should be an eec IV computer system. Check the ground wire by the computer I think in the passenger side kick panel. A relay should be also in their feel that it pulses when trying to start.
Normally no spark is in these areas.
