i converted from the 3 speed manual trans to an auto and i was wondering if there is anyone that could give me some info on hook ups and such. it drives and everything but it wont shift is there any electrical to that transmission that would cause that there is only one plug on the drivers side not sure what goes into it... What exactly makes the trans shift

Which automatic transmission did you put in it?

if it is a turbo400 or turbo350, just get a sawzall or whatever and make a hole in the floor and install a floor shifter, unless you had a 3 speed with a shifter on the floor already, then just use the hole that's already there. (i dont know if they still made "three on the tree" in the 80's but i assume not). one problem may also be that they use a vacuum modulator that needs to have a vacuum line going to one of the vacuum ports on your carburetor. this allows the tranny to shift properly. the other "plug" might be a tranny kickdown for downshifting when you mash the gas. im probably wrong on that one. there is also on th350 and th400 a "port" on the driver's side that the speedometer cable is screwed into. that is a pretty important feature unless you are a good judge of speed ;-)

if you dont have kids or anything that could accidently move the shifter then you can use an auto shift rod on one of the shift levers on the column and wire up the other one and it works fine
the safety switch on the column downlow is different and you would nbeed to jump the two big wires there usually purple and yellow
until you go get an auto column out of an 83 and older truck
84 and up wipers on column
anything else then let us know, i have done this exact conversion a few times, once in an 80 k-10 pickup
so.
good luck!
