Them & coolant temp sensor replacement

The Haynes manual states to 1st partially drain the radiator, I'm trying to get around this. If I park level & remove the thermostat housing, then the temp sensor, how much coolant do you think would come out (from the temp sensor location).
I'm just not sure how quickly I can screw the new sensor into that tight spot to stop the flow.

what motor is in it?
If its the 3100, you should be able to remove the ECT sensor and replace it with a new one without virtually any coolant loss providing your motor is cold.
With the 3800, you will lose all the coolant from the thrmostat housing and a lot from the upper hose.
