Welcome to AF.

All you have to do is remove the airbag fuse to disarm the SIR system for safety. The steering wheel does not need removal nor the airbag module to replace the multifunction switch (MFS). About a 1 hour DIY job.

Based on your symptoms yout MFS is bad since the wiring for the brake lights pass through the contacts of the 4 way hazard switch which is part of the MFS.

Let me know if you need a procedure.

The tech procedure is at the link below. It is for a Regal but it is the same for Grand Prix. Note: a part was omitted. To remove the tilt wheel lever use a small screwdriver and pry the retaining tab to the right located on the right hand side of the tilt lever mount. The lever will pull off. Good luck!

Thanks BNaylor for all your help.I copy everything you told me an took it to the guy that works on all my cars.An guess what it works! I now have brake lights. He was worried about the raido locking up when he undid the battery cable.Radio fine 'no lock-up..thank god..It took him 2 hours to put the MFS on.The guy only charged me $65.00 labor that is also inclueding putting brakes on the rear. "Im a happy camper now" wow i love this forum"I read it everyday..again thanks for everything.

I replaced my multifunction switch two years -- $400.00 and some dollars -- now my brake lights aren't working again, but same as before my third brake light is fine. Do you think there is any kind of a warranty on this part, is it normal to go bad already?

Welcome to AF.

Where did you get the part from. What parts source? As far as warranty since it has been two years proobably not.

Just to be sure have you done any troubleshooting. Are the brake lamps good?
