what the hell is that whining noise??
the circut city guy said that it would happen if i got a cd player installed into my 89, but how do you get rid of it?? do i just get new speakers and deal with it until i scrape up the cash? or is there a simple problem that is easy to fix? any input would be greatly appreciated

That whining noise is the speakers. What you need to do is get some bass blockers which you can pick up at just about any place that sells car stereo equipment. Esp. Tweeter or somewhere similar they are rather cheap. U can install them yourself or have them do so.

There are several things you can do. 1st-Check all grounds to all amps, head unit, crossover, ect. Clean them and make sure connections are good and solid. If you have an active Xover (takes 12v and has adjustable frequencies to slice and dice your signal) then Radio Shack actually makes a very effective gizmo that plugs into your rca jacks from head unit to Xover, it works well and is cheap. You may also want run dedicated speaker wires instead of using stock. Using stock is easier but these are routed in harnesses with all kinds of other system wires and are very small guage, if you pumping any kind of power through them you'll get whine (audio tachometer) and lose power to brand new aftermarket speakers.
