trans wont shift

the trans in my 97 riviera has to warm up about 5 to 10 minutes before it shifts. otherwise it just wont budge. any ideas? thanks edsel...

Dirty fluid or worn hydraulic pump. Maybe a clogged valve body ball check valve, but doubtful.
