Ok I have a 87 camaro it has a 305 motor, I got the car from someone that at the time he wanted to swap motors from another car he had the 305 was running before it was pulled, Well my friend moved out of state and gave me the car because he couldn't take it with him. So i put the motor back in and hook everything up that i could find. Brought the #1 piston up to tdc drop the dis back in it fell in on #1 put the wires back on 1,8,4,3,6,5,7,2. and it won't start no fire to plugs, It has a new cap rotor wire's not new but was running before smooth, new coil. Now there were only four ground wire's that i found one for the battery, engine, two more by the engine ground. i put the engine ground with the two in the back of the block, and the battery ground in the front by the alternator. Won't start just spins over, Are there any anymore ground wire's.:

I would make sure your getting the 12 volts from your power wire to the ignition coil. Also you may want to check the module inside the distributer.

I did check the module in the distributer and it passed three times. & i'm getting 12 volts. i think i'll unhook the battery and see if the computer will reset it's self and then go from there.:banghead:

TBI or TPI????
check for fuel
and you said you have no fire to the plugs, do you mean no spark? if so, you forgot to hook something up somewhere. there should be two connectors at the control module of the dizzy, there should be two connectors that go to the ignition coil, i believe one connector at each is a pigtail that goes from the coil to the control module. the coil should then of course have the spark plug wire that goes to the center pin on the dizzy. if theres no spark, its time to pull out the test light or voltmeter and start tracing your steps back.
also, good ol tried and true, start checking fuses, especially if you have no fuel, check the fuse up by the battery.
when pulling and reinstalling engines, no matter how careful, you run the risk of pinching a wire somewhere, it happens to the best of us. by running a test light or voltmeter down the harness, and checking the fuses you can normally track it down.

I pull the fuel line off going into the carb, and spin it over.Getting fuel, no spark from coil to wires,:cwm27:

ok, so you have 12v going to the coil, and nothing coming out. id say its time for a new coil. but just to be sure, check the coil with an ohmmeter. its a three step test, i cant really describe it, but my haynes manual has it in there.

I was thinking the same thing, So i put a new coil on and got the same thing nothing.:banghead: :banghead:

ok, so, 12 volts to the coil, no spark, try touching the sparkplug to the chassis or another ground, and seeing if you get spark. the engine ground may have gone bad. you can check by using an ohm meter and touching the negative battery terminal and the engine block. it should not be an open circuit. if the engine dosnt ground, there is no current flow through the spark plug, even if the coil is energized.

Ok here it goes, i found that the pick up coil in the distributer had gone bad. After changing it out and droping it back in on # 1 the 305 came alive. Thanx for the help.

*smacks forhead* i didnt even THINK about the pick-up coil.
well done.
well done.
