Just had the spark plugs changed and I have no power going up a hill and it's hard to start like it's not getting enough gas. I never had this problem untill I had the plugs changed. Any suggestions on what to do or what I could check.

i would guess it had a miss is the reason you changed plugs, while it was missing it dumped raw gas into cat, now the cat is melted, i live in a state where we do not have emission checks , knock out cat on manofold cut off second , and now more power than ever, if you have checks in your state you can still knock out first cat and replace second cat pick up at local parts store about 80 bucks "fits all cars type" and it will pass i have done this several times !!!

...:grinyes: ahh..good old times with carb and breaker points and straight muffler..if any.
..if you do not have any codes, i'd try that...that is, trying it with exhaust ..like..disconnected, without destroying anything first. YOu'd know for sure...
p.s. not to say what we have now is no good...when it works, it works very well, yeah, ..better. But when it goes haywire....then it's worse....:runaround: really worse :banghead:

Thanks for the replys and suggestions. I took it to a machinic and when he drove it the hold light started flashing. He put it on the machine and 14 codes came up and he said that the most codes he has ever seen on one car. I'm going to suggest the cat to him to have him to check it out. Thanks again.... Hopefully it's not ready for KIA HEAVEN:grinyes:

i would tell him to really check cat and just clear code , alot of codes , most of the time means the computer is bad, very common , i am a automotive tech and no reason to b.s. anyone, have enough trouble myself, even with computer bad if cat is removed it Might!! use a little more fuel, i removed cat on ours at 90k and it now has over 300k with very few repairs!!!!!!!!! "computer has several different sections not meaning all is bad , as it still runs " good luck

Got the Kia back and they told me that the repairs on it will exceed the value. I suggested the cat and they did not take it into concideration, so I'm going to take it to the muffler shop to have them to check it out. I know thi is alot of information I've put on here. I'm just wondering if the repairs would exceed the value or they just didn't want to mess with it. They said the computer is still good on it. On the invoice they put:
Replaced with known good used ECM- Multiple codes reset
Head gasket is leaking oil and engine has multiple other oil leaks.
Here are the 14 codes.
P1121- TPS Signal Fault to ECM to TCM
P1115- ECT Signal Fault ECM to TCM
PO452- EVAP System Pressure Sensor Low.
PO131- 02 Sensor #2 Circuit Low
PO171- Fuel System to lean bank 1
P1624- MIL Request Signal from TCM to ECM
PO343- CMP Sensor A, Circuit High Input- Bank 1
PO301- Cylinder 1 Misfire
PO300- Random Misfire
P1507- Idle Aire Control Valve Clising Coil Signal Low
P1505- IAC Opening Coil Signal
PO123- TPS A Circuit
P1121- TPS Signal Fault
P1115- ECT Signal Fault

I have a 98 kia sportage with the same problems you have discussed. I had a friend look at it and he says that oil has leaked into the spark plugs, needs a gasket replaced, said we should change the coils too, I got new plugs and wires, coils and gasket and he's going to do it for $100 and some beer as soon as it gets a little warmer here.
Keep me posted on yours!

Well, I've had the valve cover gasket replace and also oil was standing into the spark plugs. I didn't have the coil changed but the guy that worked on it got it running got but after we got it back it will not pull a hill or when you pull out you better have nothing coming. We took it to the KIA dealership and the service guy said that we would put more money into than what it's worth. Does your have hasitation when you give it gas, ours is like when you press the gas it just not want to respond in what we want it to do. Keep me informed also about yours, we might be able to find out what's wrong with both of ours. It's wild how yours is doing the same thing and had the same problem with the oil in the spark plugs.

Don't know if you got this problem solved yet.
Thought I might be able to help.
I had the same sort of problems and replaced the spark plugs at home.
When it continued to run rough, I took it to the dealer who told me I put in the wrong spark plugs.
The wrong brand, that is.
They are to use only the NGK brand which weren't sold at discount stores like WalMart. They are sold at auto parts stores.
Make sure you check your specification book to make sure NGK is the right name ( I may have forgotten it!)
Hope your Kia runs well for a long time!
