I made a post a few months back about my car not starting sometimes, ill have to let it crank for about 5 seconds sometimes to get the engine to start, and sometimes it will start right up with just a flick of the key. also has anyone seen on the new caddilacs how you can just turn the key to "start" and not have to hold it there for the engine to start up, i thought that was pretty cool, whats that feature called anyway??? i'd love to get something like that...

I would almost bet the farm on it being carb related. Check your air filter and ignition timing first, if this doesn't take care of it, then check your choke adjustment. Also, check the fuel filter. If the carb has some time on it, it may need rebuilt, or at the least you can check the duty cycle of the M/C solenoid with a dwell meter.

i know the air filter is clean, i was thinking of having the carb rebuilt though for a while

That starting feature is not just on cadillacs, but on all GM vehicles newer then 2004. My father's 2006 Silverado is just like that, my buddy's 2005 GMC Envoy is like that as is my Aunt's Cobalt (cant remember the year). The ECM controls that. Nothing that can be transplanted into your car. Sorry. I already looked into it, I really like that feature too.

My car does the same thing. Although, mines been sitting for years until a few weeks ago. So yeah it must be a carb issue. Maybe a tune-up will fix it.

mine sat for 8 years when i bought it. funny story he parked my car in his garage while he left his new cars outside (sadly the weather had taken its toll on the paint before he parked it). he bought the car new in 82 in massachusetts and drove it to new jersey and it lived there from 82 to 91 then he brought it back to mass.

Theres a (used to be) nice '85 caddilac fleetwood thats been sitting in front of my neighbors house now for going on almost 3 years now. its shame cause it looked mint when they first got it, now its just rusting away and the paint is faded, i wanted to see if they were going to sell it but i dont think they wanted to, o well.

The worst thing you can do is let a car sit. Like mine for instance was in great working condition for years and ever since its been sitting little problems keep coming up now that its on the road again.

Agreed, when I got my car it had been sitting for about 6 years in a garage, being used as a storage device. After I got it running, for the first full year it was constantly nickeling a diming me. Then the second year it went through nearly problem free and since that, the same.... well, basically.

on the slow start problem i would replace the carb gas filter these get plugged quickly with gas tank rust.... also when cold look at choke plate is is fully closed and does it snap back with good force when forced open slightly..? may just need a little cleaning and lube on choke cam/linkages..or a new choke stove spring.....
