00 gt. 146000 miles. i have a loud clunk coming from the rear. it only does it when hitting rough spots- potholes, really rough spots in the road or the ground. it doesnt do it if you hit dips in the road that are smooth. jsut when theres like rough terrain or holes and such. i took it to a shop and the guy said it could be the strut mounts? any ideas on that. and if thats the case do i need to buy new struts and mounts seperately or how does it all work? also if it helps if you stand outside the car and have somebody else drive it over bumpy areas you can hear it when you stand beside it. any help would be greatly appreciated...its very frustrating and annoying.

"If" your clunking problem are your strut mounts, you can purchase those seperate. However, if your struts have never been replaced, I would recommend replacing your struts along with new strut mounts. My passenger rear strut mount was bad and by pulling back my carpet to expose the rear mount, we could clearly see that the strut mount was shot.

Yup ! I just replace my rear sturt mounts on my 97 ~ The mounts run 90 bucks each ! I went to all 3 common auto parts store and then the dealer ! They were all the same price ! The dealer had them on hand the other 3 needed to order them !
Then i was charged 100.00 bucks to have them installed ! Now i am riding smooth as glass ! :grinyes:
