1992 Asto van won't start...HELP

Help! Have 1992 Astro Van. Just changed the starter, battery is fine. Went to the store, came out 5 minutes later and won't start. No power at all, lights don't come on. At first, the dinging noise from the key being in the ignition was on, only sign of power in the thing. Then I moved the steering column and that went too. Any ideas?? Please help, this is our only vehicle and I have to use it for work.

Thanks

My 1993 Astro CL has something similar but it will start. When I turn the ignition key, I get a click and the engine doesn't turn over. Sometimes it will take couple of turns of the key, then it starts fine. It's not a starter problem. I wonder if it's my ignition switch.

A couple of hits on the key won't start it I take it?

Sounds like the switch to me. Mind you this isn't where you put the key in. It's mounted to the top of the steering column and controlled by a rod connected to the key-lock.

Hey thanks! I didn't mean to hijack this thread. It sounded similar. Mine has been doing it for years. The van has 200K on it and has limited use.

Still bettin gon the switch. My 95 did the same. It would be good for days. Then it would take 5-6 tries before it would start, then more and more.....
