i had a question for anyone who can help me out with this.
I have a 1993 honda del sol SI (d16z6). everything is stock except for the custom exhaust piping into a OBX baby bomb Muffler and a AEM cold air intake.
My question is whether or not i should fix my timing/cam gears or anything else to adjust the major loss feeling around mid range rpm........it just feels so dead from 3000 to 5000 rpms, is this normal or am i just really used to my stock engine that i think it is lacking???
Thanks Dblaron93

p.s. if there is a thread like this already sorry!!!

what size exhuast piping do you have? if its too big might give lag.

when was the last time you did a full tune up ? if you havent done it in a while then you might be down on power alittle bit

I'd say just buy a 4-2-1 header.

It is because you have no back pressure before you go 2.5 you should have got some other mods first. Also you only have one cam gear not 2. Are you still running the stock cam gear? You are running a Single Cam and before you start feeling any power you are going to have to do a lot of bolt-ons. Look at my setup in my sig and then look at my 1/4 time.

well i heard the only reason for adding a cam gear was to advance or retard your timing, whether it be ignition or intake or exhaust. i am going to add a cam (sorry about the cams lol was late when i typed it ) soon but, i have no access to a dyno or other stat machine to tell where i should adjust my timing to.....if anyone can help me out on where to set it for a few messly mods or if it is even necessary for me to change it from my stock setting thanks!!!!!!
to answer CivicKiller's question yes i just did a new tune up less than a month ago.....
thanks all for the help, any other help will shed light on helping me learn more.
(((also some sad news, last night some kids broke into my car and stole over $900+ in stereo equipment. the honda owners never ending story about theft lol sorry just wanted to rant about it cuz people who steal from cars oviously havent ever work/paid for something in there car)))

Ran across this at another forum...
For NA or nitrous setups using stock cam, set cam gear at 3 degree retard. Now reset the ignition timing to 18-19 BTDC.
Worth a useable 6-7 hp and 2 tenths at the track.
Might try that if you do get an adjustable cam gear...

When I was talking to a UR tech he was saying that on the Single Cams Advancing the timing will give you a little bit of low end power which is what you need on a Single Cam. If you retard it will give you more high end power which is also nice to have. If you are running N/A I would advance you cam sprocket no more then 2 notches. If you are running N/A then you are going to need more low end power at least on the single cam.

ignition timing is already about 18 Btdc it would be better at about 22 Btdc but then will take a little life off the rods but not much and on your power loss i would check your spark plugs i have del sol with a d16z6 and i just got done closing the gap to .04 where it should be from .09 where it was it made quite a bit of difference and idles better

Hey people i have a 1993 honda civic dx and i just put a 1994 honda civic d16z6 ex motor in it with the z6 wire harness and p28 ecu from a autmatic transmission when mine is 5 speed and i was wondering, the map sensor goes on the manifold and throttle body and so i plug it in and i am throwing a check engine light for codes 3-5 which are both the same codes and it is a map sensor and i was wondering why it is doing it and how do i fix it, its idling like it has a vacume leak but i dont its the map sensor making it do it and then i cant hit vtec unless i do push button vtec. Also my IAT sensor is throwing its check light also code 10 how do i fix that to???
