This is nothing major at the moment, just mind boggling more than anything. With the 96 1500 chevy running the hood was lifted cuz we thought we could smell burning rubber. After close examination we could not find anything wrong so we closed the hood and when it was about 6 inches from being fully closed you could here an arch. Scared, we lifted the hood again but still found nothing. So we got back in the truck and went on our way everything was working fine. NOW here is the mind bender! The only thing wrong was the clock got jumped ahead an 1 hour 20 min. not set back to 12:00 like you would think as if it was reset but jumped ahead from 12:00 (the currnt time) to 1:20.

Check your battery and battery cables, make sure that the posts of the battery or the battery cable
ends are in no way touching the metal part of the body.
If the battery isn't in a hold down, it might be shifting on you as you close the hood.
A sudden surge to the electrical system could cause your clock to do crazy things.
Bad part is, the clock may be the only thing that you noticed!

... the clock got jumped ahead an 1 hour 20 min. not set back to 12:00 like you would think as if it was reset but jumped ahead from 12:20 (the currnt time) to 1:20....
Well, 12:20 to 1:20 is one hour, not 1 hour and 20 minutes. The only thing I can think of is the clock was set an hour ahead and you didn't notice it until you were looking for a problem. With the daylight saving time change recently, is it possible that you turned it ahead 2 hours, or you turned it ahead 1 hour, then someone else did too? Of course if you meant to say it jumped to 1:40, I have no ideas. Did you disconnect the battery to see what the clock normally resets to? On some GMs it's 1:00, but that wouldn't explain the 20 minutes. That really is a head scratcher. If you figure it out, please let us know.
