Hi

Somehow, I found on ebay some ST27 decals to make the 1985 Safari Celica.

http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Pit/9975/vehiclepix/rally/celtcka.jpg
(pic is from 1000 lakes, but this is the car I am talking about)

However, I have never seen any kit from any brand for this machine!!.

Anyone can help?

Thanks

Shortly you will see one with metal parts for full engine and cockpit:naughty: . Body remains resin, very clean. I bought it for US$ 800, which was crazey move from me, but I love the car as I drove it several times during the 1986 and 1987 when I worked for Toyota Team Middle East out of Dubai, I was mechnical engineer.
It is very rare, as it says on the box 100 kits were made, not sure how accurate is this information.

A friend of mine here in the UK, a well known GpB rally car builder, paid about £300 for one last year...he said he just had to have it! :grinno:

I am sure anybody saw that car in action especially in the events suited best this car would go crazey and such high prices. I wish one day the models companies stop releasing war subjects and venture into rare stuff like group B cars.

dude2000,

can't agree more!!

Hopefully our friends from ScuderiaLab.Italia will do so.

If they continue with such high quality standards as they did for Renault 5 Maxi, which I trully believe they will, they will have a customer for life: myself!!! :)

I can make a list of Group B's I will buy for sure, without blinking my eyes:

Renault 5 Maxi Turbo (already in my shelf!!! :grinyes: )
Audi Quattro S1 (because Reji's version sucks!)
Opel Manta 400
Toyota Celica Twincam Turbo
Nissan 240RS
Ford RS200 Diabolique (the beginning of the end of Gr. B - this car had an accident in Portugal in 1986 and sadly killed 3 or 4 spectators)

Oh well.. I could make a huge wishlist!!!

The Diabolique RS200 was done by BBA two years ago. I'm fortunate to have one, partly made, just need to complete the chassis and interior. I got it free from the guy who paid £300 for the Celica kit.. :)

I have never understood why the GrpB cars have been ignored by the mainstream manufacturers. Aside from the Tamiya Pug and the Hase 037, it's been pretty lame. Can you imagine an S1 from Tamiya(!) or a S4 from Hasegawa. Surely these kits would be popular. :banghead: I admire Scuderialab guys for doing the 5 Maxi. They have an S1 in the works too. :)

We know that Car Manufacturers, and sponsers, asks for big dollar value in return of allowing a poor model company to release one of their cars, but the question would be: Why they would ask for such license fees for cars which are long time out of production?

Do they consider it in return of using the manufacturer brand name or is it they consider it for using the model brand name, or perhaps both?

Sometime I wonder if they ask for it to raise the barrier for model companies and stop them from releasing models that can affect models in the street?!! Could be someone stuipd :screwy: to this level to think that 25 years old design and technology would mean consumer will not buy current model?

Anyway sport commercialization had its impact across everything related to the sport directly or indirectly. Thank to Mr. Ring Master who turned a sport into a multi billion business and spoiled in the way the joy of our childhood and our retirment keep busy hobby.

One thing we could do is converting this thread into an online petition!

I am the first one to sign.

I am willing to buy 2 Celica's from whoever is going to fabricate them for at least 150 € each.

If anybody else is interested please post a thread below.

Perhaps once and for all find out if this (Group B Rally cars) is an interesting and attractive subject, businesswise speaking!

Hello all,

I doubt any kind of "petition" could be taken seriously by a manufacter but That costs nothing to ask if they have already thought to this one...
I will contact Profil24 soon and let them now this model could have some success if they release it ! :grinyes:

Another Group B I really would like to see is the Renault 5 Turbo TDC version (with the 2 big additional lights in spoiler) as raced in the 84 corsica rally for example.
I tried to modify a tamiya body but after having messed up three bodies I gave up :disappoin

The mazda RX7 is also still missing in 1/24 but I must admit this one doesn't really excite me...

I would prefer a Nissan 240 rs !!! :naughty: :naughty: :grinyes:

Better talk to the MAN (Profil24) directly! :) If you could do that would be great.

A NO is always guaranteed :iceslolan, but at least we tried!

...and you can always ask for the Celica and the 240RS (which I like too :evillol: )

Some months ago someone posted on here that Reji (I think) we going to do the Celica...

Profil24 released the Quattro S1 last year - It is night and day better than their earlier Group B kits (Delta S4 and Metro 6R4)... The Delta and Metro are worth having as they are literally the only game in town and can be built nicely (with a bit of work)...

The Quattro though looks really good.. Profil24 appear to be stepping their quality up dramatically... Bodies have always been good, but the minor parts on the Quattro are much cleaner / more precise.

Hello everybody!

There is also another, older kit of Celica TCT, made by Lunatic from Japan. I suppose that Lunatic quitted it's business before webshops, so most likely these kits weren't sold too many outside of Japan.

It is very old kit, probably from 80's. I have never seen Sakatsu kit so I cannot compare them, but I wouldn't be surprised if the body of Sakatsu would be a copy if this.

To my mind the shape of the body seems to be very accurate, much better than many resin rallycar kits of these days. Engine looks nice too and there is even some chassis details, eventhough chassis detailing is more rough. But they seems to be correctly done as I looked the pictures from MAT, excellent!

If I have understood right, Sakatsu was a curbside kit without chassis details?

Decals are ok too, there are decals for both Ivory Coast and Safari 85' winners. I bought Studio27 decals but they were actually less correct, some fonts were wrong, and few colors were too dark.

http://img194.imageshack.us/img194/4518/img80601d.jpg (http://img194.imageshack.us/i/img80601d.jpg/)

http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/2461/img80611.jpg (http://img62.imageshack.us/i/img80611.jpg/)

And then some negative points:

-tyres and rims are being weld together, not good. Also, rims aren't completely correct.

-The pictures of instructions are fine but text is only in japanese, so no use for me.

-No PE parts (have to draw my own) or Vacuformed windows, even though Celica hasn't got too difficult windows.

-Bonnet doesn't fit too well.

-Clear parts has yellowing, most likely I have to remade them. I guess that yellowing of the old resin is normal.

I Don't know the production number of these kits, but mine was number 47, so this has been most likely a limited edition kit.
But in the end, I believe that this is a great alternative for Sakatsu, and it was cheaper too

From what i see of those pictures i would say the kit is even better than Sakatsu...

The worst thing about the kit i think is that it is unavailable.., as the Sakatsu one..:frown:

Be happy you have it, even without photoetch etc.

The Lunatic kit looks way better than the Sakatsu version. It even has an engine!!

As you say the only issue is the resin wheels and tyres. The Sakatsu rims and tyres are fantastic.

Hello All.

I was involved with this car and someone gave me the Sakatsu kit when it came out. My modelling skills are pretty basic so I think I might sell it.

Can anyone give me some (independent!) advice on where is the best place to do this? I'm not sure eBay would let enough people see it.

Thanks,

This is the one I have bought for US$ 800, this is not 1980 kit... it was released in early 1990s. 100 units were produced.

This is better than the Sakatsu kit as it has the engine details.

Yes, I'm going to make a couple of copies of this kit in future, but I think there are some things that should be fixed (mainly rims and tyres). Also PE sheet and decals should be re-drawn.

I'll post more pics next weekend as I've got more time.

I'd kill for one of the major manufacturers to release this car as a plastic kit, along with various other Group B cars. It was a short lived era, but it produced some fantastic cars. It would be great to see them in plastic. Sure there have been a few releases lately, the Ford Focus WRC to name one. But I just wish the likes of Tamiya and Hasegawa would start either re releasing some of the older kits, or better still offer a few new ones for the rally fans. There are a few classic cars that never made it into plastic. Opel Manta 400, Metro 6R4, Celica Twin Cam, Lancia S4, Audi S1 Sport Quattro etc, etc.. I could think of at least a dozen or more....

Does anyone have a contact e-mail for the big manufacturers as I've always been intrigued why they stopped producing rally cars. Imagine a Tamiya retro series of some of the superb GpB cars.

I have some good photos of this GpB Celica when Bjorn Waldegard competed on the 1985 Scottish Rally. It just looked so mean and totally unlike any road car version of the Celica. RWD and excellent power made it a superb rally car and fans favourite.

The rebuild link from the guys in Finland is fantastic - unbelievable fabrication skills and they have 2 of them!!
