Hey guys, me again.....

Yesterday, filled up with gas (92 octane) on my way to work. Drove 30-40 miles to work, no problems. When I arrived at work, my MPG guage on the DIC said I had like 29.5 or something. Sounds right to me for mainly highway and a little stop and go. Then I went to leave work after an 8 hour shift. Car started just fine, put in gear, drove perfectly for about 3 blocks. Then started surging and acting like it was going to stall out. RPM's kept surging between 500 and 2000 while trying to pick up speed. Then I had to stop at a stop light. When I went to go, my car bucked quite a bit, (500-2000 rpm's), then it died. Noticed my "TCS off" light was not lit (first thing I looked at since I just replaced the crank sensor in fall, ac delco of corse). After it died, pulled over, put it in park, started it right back up no problems, but this time I put in in 3 instead of oD thinking maybe its a tcc issue. I also noticed that just from driving a few short blocks, that my MPG had dropped significantly (from 29 down to about 21). Once restarted and in 3, the car did the same thing. Chugged along at lower speeds. By this time I was on the highway and with the rpm's up going 55-60mph, my car didnt seem to have any problmes, so I just drove it straight home with only a few problems the rest of the way.

Once I arrived home, I parked in the driveway and went inside to grab my laptop with digimoto. When I got back outside, and restarted the car, the SES light came on. So i retrieved the DTC (P0102 I believe) MAF sensor low voltage or low input (or something), so I unplugged the MAF sensor and the car ran 100% after the idle stabilized. Since it was almost 10pm, and I had to work in the morning I jst parked it.

Today I drove to work with it unplugged, ran just fine. On my way, I stopped to see what a stealership wanted for a MAF sensor. $325.00 wbefore tax and he had to order it from Maryland. (you would think they would stock the MAF for these cars and cut the price down since there are high fail rates). Needless to say I did not order one. I told him that I was going to keep driving with it unplugged for the time being. Drove to work and home without any problems.

Now my question is if you guys know the failure rate of the MAF sensors off of ZZP. Are they genuine AC Delco's, or some knock off? Why are the being sold so dirt cheap compared to the dealer's? Will it work with my car? How fast does ZZP ship if I order tonight? What would you guys recommend? Is it going to hurt my car in any way to drive with the MAF unplugged for a week while one from ZZP is being shipped?

Maybe I should just go ahead and purchase a stage 1 high volocity throttle body from zzp. It comes complete with a MAF/IAC/TPS already installed. I think my IAC might be on the way out too. What do you guys think?

i really stand by ZZP. i love the company. most of the parts i ordered for my SE project came from ZZP. the warehouse is in MI so i would imagine you would see the parts next day. i know i did in WI.

to answer your question, i'm not sure if the MAF from ZZP is comparable to the OEM AC Delco, but ZZP is a very reputable company, and they stand by their products!

Thanks for the quick reply, as you read, I am either considering a high velocity stage 1 throttle body for 199.99 (sensors included) or just the maf sensor 119.99. I'm leaning towards the t-body only because it also comes with an IAC (i think mine is short of needing replacement)

By chance do you know the advantages of this tbody? hp? how sill this affect my mpg?

Thank!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

to tell you the truth...I'm not real sure!:screwy: i was thinking about doing a N* T-body conversion on my SE to see what it does for me. i was advised on a different forum that i wouldnt see much of a difference. i have a T-body spacer on mine, and that seems to keep the T-body much much cooler.

not to run off on a tangent though...

4.04? holy cow!!!!!!

Honestly, when i filled up, I dont think I even looked. Just swiped my card and filled up. It came to I think 42 bucks to fill the tank from a quarter to full.

I believe it was around $3.25 a gallon.

I have bought a MAF sensor from ZZP and no such luck. Same problems as before. Haven't gotten around to buying another one, money is tight on a college kids budget. I have been driving with it unplugged for a couple months. I drive mostly stop and go and get between 16-18 mpg, and around 27-30 highway. Anyways, ZZP was quick with shipping all the way to Florida, just a few days. Best of luck, let me know how it works out.

alright, thanks for the heads up. Did you check for voltage across the pink (+) and black (-) wires at the MAF sensor plug just to rule out a possible wiring issue?

Did you email or call ZZP? Whats their return/exchance polocy on a MAF?

Whats their return/exchance polocy on a MAF?

pretty sure they are pretty good w/ exchanging parts. unfortunatly they have a no return policy on anything electrical, pretty much like any parts store...

I ordered the MAF on Monday noon. It shipped within a couple of hours and I received it in MA Yesterday. P0102 code now cleared. The price is less than half of dealer. It says AC Delco on their web site and the numbers matched my original. Good Luck tblake.

alright, well thank you. Leaning towards getting th whole stage 1 throttle body now though. Its only 199.99 and comes with all the sensors. My IAC is kinda on its way out too.

I emailed ZZP and he assured me that the sensors were of high quality and that it would work good with my car.

Thanks for your input!!!!!!!!!!!

alright, I'll keep my eye open.

Too bad you couldnt have had your seminar a week ago, you could have stopped by the Auto Show. I went lastyear, and it was pretty sweet. Planned on going again this year, but didnt find the time, right in the middle of switching jobs.
