Wipers wont park - Broken tab!!!

The wipers on my 2000 venture wouldn't park. I found and read the posts concerning the bent tap at the wiper motor, but when I went to straighten out the tap I discovered that it had been broken off. Does anyone know if they sell a replacement piece or maybe someone knows the measurements of it? I can always make one and spot weld it on.

Hey Keystone,
I thought I had posted pictures of this about a year ago but can't find the post. The tab isn't very large, yours only needs to be large enough to catch the small birds mouth lever when the windshield wiper motor is spinning backwards for the park cycle. If you have access to a welder that should make it very easy to fix. The tab has to be short enough to clear the clutch mechanism and properly positioned to allow the wipers to park all of the way down, you should be able to get a clue as to the location of the old tab by the spot weld marks on the bracket. Once you have the new tab in make sure you lube the crap out of it, I don't think chevy puts any lube on it at the factory. My tab had a groove worn in it from the level rubbing against it constantly every time the wipers cycle in the forward direction (stupid really).
Good luck, I'll try and find the pictures that I took and post them.

So for those of use whose wipers still work - should we open the assembly up and lubricate it?

Hey WPHall,
Yes, you should. Just a little white lithium grease should prevent the wear that can cause the failed to park issue that I had.
