Horn contact 91 4DR - rtv sealant???

Finally got my horn to work after the voltage checks and pulling the wheel off to find the contacts were dirty, cleaned them off after I laid a screw driver across the main contact and the steering column and heard the horn for the first time.
Got it all back together but horn only works while the wheel is turning at times, the problem is the wire coming from the button with the spring around it, it isn't seating down all the time for a good connection. looks like someone used some kind of gasket sealant before to hold it in place, would that work? Using RTV sealant around the spring?
The tube that extends has broken a few times it looks like, never seen one to know if the little plastic rod around the wire is supposed to clip into it somehow to hold the spring slightly compressed for constant contact, is that the case? If it is I'll just buy a new ... whatever it's called, the ring that makes contact behind the wheel.
Need this done asap to inspect the truck, fixing the only other problem, really screwed up tailpipe tomorrow morning, so any help before then would be appreciated.
BTW - Checked other posts and nothing mentioned this part of it, only finding a short or blown fuse. Also the horn relay for the 91 4dr is behind the panel and just above the hood release handle, along with the blinker flasher, never would've found it if I hadn't been rewiring my stereo connections....

Yeah, makes the most sense, just brings me up from $300-$350 spent on little stuff this week for the truck, trying to cut back now. Thanks though, I'll check the cost, might not be too bad at the ol' az.

Take the part to your dealer and show them what you need.
Should not be very expensive.
But if all else fails you can install a universal horn button on the steering column or dash.
Good Luck

Yeah it's listed as a turn signal cam since the lobes on it kick the cam back into the neutral position, or as a horn contact. Auto zone only carries a uvniversal which works fine, just need a steering wheel puller to get to it again. Had a guy change the ignition and he only put the nut back on till it felt tight, but he didn't crank it down so the wheel was locked on.
Part was $5.99 and in stock, not bad at all once the guy at az remembered that they did carry it, he said no at first.
Also bought a cherrybomb turbo muffler, the stock is leaking and I was gonna do some exhaust work anyways for the leaks, so why not upgrade a leaking stock muffler while I'm at it. I'll post any results I find afterward. Thanks
