I'm back everyone. My lifter chatter on my 2001 5.3L has gone but in its place I now have an engine knock which is constant through all RPM's. It's a very, very faint knock and can only be heard while inside the truck. Let me give you history so you can tell me where to go next.

- Plugs changed - wires not (lifter noise begins)
- 2 Oil changes, last one with full synthetic
- Marvel Mystery added (no change)
- Sea Foam added to clean injectors
- New wires added (lifter noise disappears)

Now the engine knock. Manual suggests fuel, plugs, ignition are places to begin. No check engine lights.

Truck has 106k on the engine and has been well taken care of. I'm almost at the point of repairing this knock, whatever it is and telling someone to give me $10k and it's yours.

What are your suggestions?

Just went out this afternoon and did a better test and listen. The knock is still faint, but I place my ear on the air filter housing and the knock is very well heard from there. If you stand back and listen to the engine, you can't hear the sound - even used a stethoscope on the block and still couldn't hear it. Therefore, it must be coming from the fuel system (injectors, throttle body) or a spark plug has another poor connection.

By the way, the lifter chatter is back - I'm going the fuel route next.

Just picked up more spark plugs after visiting the local Zone. 2 behind the counter say it's the plugs. I failed to mention that I dropped one of the plugs before installing. That might be the problem.

Will report back later.

What brand of plugs and wires did you use? Have you replaced the dist. cap and rotor? I've found that it's always best to stick with AC-Delco.
