Fuel Injectors; clean them or replace them??

Truck:
2002 silverado; 4.8L v8.
138K miles..

Situation:
On the way to Phoenix from San Diego this weekend; my fuel pump decided it was time to die. 1 exit away from the ONLY dealership between the two.

Now.. This got me thinking. They replaced the fuel pump ($1100) and fuel filter; but what's the deal with the injectors? Should they be cleaned? Or just replaced and at what mileage? I have lots of carb experience; but this is my first vehicle with FI.

I'm looking for opinions.
Also; if you've done either; what did it cost?

OUCH!!!!! As far as injectors go, there is no real time line for them. I have a work truck with over 200,000 on the stock injectors. Its just a random thing that goes out. I see no problem with keeping the ones you have in there. BTW... oem fuel injectors are expensive as shit. If you do have to get some, check out ebay or other places of that nature. Alot of us pull out stock injectors with low miles to go with an upgraded set.

replace fuel filter every 30,000mi and keep gas level above 1/4 tank this will keep the fuel pump happy.....the fuel additives in gas will keep injectors clean, as you know additives are available for the removal of deposits TECHRON is what I use,,, very rarely...required....

Is that a good way to prevent fuel pump failure? Keeping the tank about 1/4 tank, or is that just to keep the pump from picking up junk from a almost empty tank?

fuel is what keeps pump cool....if I lived in pheonix I would keep it at least 1/2 tank in the hot months...I doubt condensation is a problem in pheonix.....also keeping at least a 1/4 tank of fuel or more......

If you are worried about it take it to a shop and have them motor-vac it. We charge $65, I've seen it work great on some cars and not on others.
