I picked up an 86 Monte Carlo SC from a college kid for 800.00. He hit a deer with it, tore up the whole front end. I replaced it all, and now she is sitting. I hate just leaving it sit there.
I put the original rims on her, the checkerboard aluminum rims, but am not sure I like em. Also, I need to find parts for this car, and it is almost impossible.
I am going to scrap the 305 that's in there, and put a different engine/trans in the car. I need to know something about the 700-R4 Trannys. Seeing as I want to put a B&M Shifter in in, it requires that I have a 3 speed tranny. Can the 700-R4 work? Or will I have to be content with the TH-350?
Oh, btw, the engine I am putting in, is a 396, but not sure which one to get. I know the chevelle 396 was a powerplant, but also ungodly hard to find. Any suggestions? Otherwise I may opt with a 72 Olds 455.

I don't know about the shifter working with the 700R4 but I do know that the 700R4 is a dog. A turbo 350/400 is a much better transmission and bullet proof in my book.
