2000 Accord Slips When Accelerates or Decelerates

Hey, my friend has a 2000 accord, lx. Don't get me wrong, hondas kick @$$ but, not this one. There's about 120k, but the thing's been doing this a LOOOONG time. Whenever the car is at a complete stop, say at a light, and you go to accelerate, it's almost like the engine gives a kick back before it even accelerates. Then, when you're deccelerating, before it comes to a complete stop, the motor engine kicks back again. Now it's starting to do this, for example, when we're on the freeway, already going 60 or something, and need to pass another car, the thing is so sluggish.

My question is, is this normal? Do accords of this year always do this? What the heck is the engine doing? I was told that it's because it's stalling, but that's not quit the feeling I get when I drive it. :screwy: Sorry if this was already posted on other threads and thanks for your help!

when was the last full tune up? had a tranny service lately? I'd try those first, if that doesnt do it I'd have to have a little better description of the problem.

From you description it is hard to tell if it is the engine or tranny. However, there was a recall on the transmissions certain years for Accords The 2000 Accords were among those on the recall. Honda would replace the transmission if under 7yrs and 100,000miles if diagnosed by Honda to have a problem - slipping or not engaging properly. Unfortunately, your friend's vehicle is out of this range. I had mine replaced at 98,000 miles due to signs of slipping when flooring it.
