Which engine do you have?
What parts have you already changed?
ANy codes?

Code 12 is the battery has been disconnected in the last 50 cycles and 55 means end of codes.

You say that you have changed distributor cap, I am assuming you also replaced the rotor at the same time if not do so.

Here is a site that gives you directions for testing the ignition system for no start:

http://www.autozone.com/az/cds/en_us/0900823d/80/10/ba/02/0900823d8010ba02/repairInfoPages.htm

I recommend doing these test before replacing the SCC.

Take off distributor cap and make sure the distributor is turning, if not check for broken timing belt.

Hope this helps
