How do I repair tailgate latch?

I can't get my rear tailgate to open. Does anyone know how I would go about fixing it? Thanks in advance......Kristy

Can you fill us in on the year of your truck, some Rodeo's came with a push button on the dash as well as manually opening the gate.

You may end up having to force it to release, then pull the inside cover of the gate and relube all of the moving parts. We just went through this ourself.

It is a 1995 Isuzu Rodeo. It has the push button on the dash and a manual opening handle in the back.....can't get either of them to open the tailgate.....How do I force it to release, and how do I get the inside cover off? Any answers are greatly appreciated.....As you can tell I'm new to this....This is my first time owning a Rodeo.....Thanks very much for your quick response

I just serviced mine, and not only did it eliminate all the little squeeks in the parking lots, it actually cost nothing, and the gate closes like new!
The release latch for the spare tire pulls straight at you, and slightly down (mine was off kilter and wouldnt open either). The glassback oughtta pop just fine if you stand next to it and have someone else hit the switch on the dash. The Keyway does not need to be pressed in to unlock, just insert key and turn it to 12o'clock then push it in. Grab something soft to hold the hatchback open.

WD40 or light sewing-machine oil ALL the latches recieving points, and while you're there, don't forget the teflon-tabs for the reviever for the spare. The catch points have 2 plastic/teflon white tabs; and since their getting old, the teflon isnt self-lubricatiing anymore and responds well to re-lubrication.
