2000 Wiper Arms

Does anyone know the best way to remove one for repair or replacement. My DS wiper arm appears to be stripped.:banghead:

Thats not good, they usually have a retainer clip that hold them on to the pivot. I believe its a spring loaded horseshoe shaped clip that you can manuver with a small flat bladed screwdriver. The Arms are usually reasonably priced but the pivot itself is sold with the wiper motor transmssion and is quite expensive.

The older style Blazers/Jimmys used the retaining clip. From '94 and up, they are connected using a retaining nut on top of the pivot shaft...and covered by either a rubber cap or plastic cover.

The pivot shaft is steel and has a knurled conical section that "bites" into the softer die-cast zinc wiper arm head's inner surface of the hole when the retaining nut is torqued down. The arm head is probably what is stripped, not the shaft.

If the hole hasn't been reamed out or out-of-round from the slippage, retighening to the proper torque should be all that is needed. Remove the arm and clean out any metal shavings from the knurles. If the hole looks oblong (wear on only one side of the hole), then it'll need to be replaced.

Reset the arm onto the pivot shaft and position it approximately horizontal. DO NOT use any lubricants on the shaft or knurles. Proper torque spec is 17 ft-lbs. Good luck!
