I have a 67 Impala with a 283 which I had rebuilt and changed over to electronic ignition about a year and a half ago. The only problem I am having is that it has burnt up two coils within 2k miles. What is causing this and will a high performance coil solve the problem.
Thanks

Define "electronic ignition"... meaning was a Pertronix unit installed, or did you upgrade to an HEI, switch to a MSD setup, or ???

It was converted to an HEI system.

Did you replace the ballast resistor wire with straight, 10-gauge wire all the way to the fuse panel? If not, this is something you want to do. The HEI system uses no ballast resistor or wire at all - coil gets full voltage.

Thanks silicon212! That's where I was heading with my question! http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif

I'm not 100% sure about that. It does have a second wire run to the red coil wire. However I'm not sure of the guage or origin of the wire. I with have to check that out when I get home. Thanks for the heads up. I'm not really a motorhead and I'm learning as I go on this one. Again thanks for the help.

Do you have a volt meter of any sorts?
Need to make sure there's a full 12V at the dizzy.

Here's a link to take a look at... hopefully it will clarify things a bit.

Scott thanks for the link, the voltage regulator never crossed my mind. I will change the resistor wire to 10 guage and the voltage regulator. You help has been invaluable.
