i recently purchased a 1996 thunderbird with 60,700 miles on it it has a 4.6. The check engine light is on an scanned it it came back saying "the egr valve is out of range" that is the only stored code.. went to purcahse they said test the erg preasure swith first? how do you do that?
2ND? the low coolant light comes on from time to time.. any suggestions?
3RD ? the exhaust puts out a very very strong egg order after driving at idle?
THANKS!!!!!

well i could tell you what the smell is! lol its you catalytic converters... theyve gone bad. the smell is all the carbon build up burnin. not pretty eh? my suggestion... remove all 3 cats, relocate your O2 sensors and run "true duals" back to some flowmaster super 40's or 44's:grinyes: :grinyes: of course you could do what i did and replace the cats but just ad a down pipe after the resonator... hehehe:screwy:

bank no. 1 as in the first set of O2 sensors id guess. either way you need to replace your cats so maybe when (if) your replace them pop out your O2 sensors and give em a look.

i brought it to 2 differnt muffler shops and they said the cats were smelling like that due to fuel being dumped and burned off said they were still good..said they are doing what they are supposed to do.. both shops said that. one said im waisting my money buy changing them the first shop i dropped it off and they drove it for 45 min and coulndnt get it to smell and after i changed the egr and preasusse sensor i havent smelled it again. car sat for 9 months before i bought it she got a new car and sold me this one. its gettin like 14.9mpg

1987ss- Be sure you don't have a vacuum leak. The vacuum line going to the EGR and the T fittings are known to crack and leak. Take the vacuum lines off of the EGR and check them carefully because the crack or split my be hard to see when the lines are installed. You can also check out this website for info about O2 sensors and how to test them. http://www.mr2.com/TEXT/O2_Sensor.html
Trust your muffler shops- the cats are the last thing you want to replace!$$$$
