Friend has a 01 Intrepid that as you are driving it has a sound like a drum is rubbing someplace (you can hear it every revolution and increases with speed) but when the brakes are applied the sound quits. Looking at a online manual it talks about a FLINGER DISC on the front hub and bearing assembly. What is this FLINGER DISC and could the rubbing sound be coming from this???? I have not taken car apart yet to find problem which I thought might be a bad bearing on the rear but knowing now that it has 4 wheel disc brakes I am stumped.
IF anybody knows where I can find a picture of the FLINGER DISC on the hub and bearing assembly that would be great.
Thanks for any suggestions.

i had same problem(assuming we're talking about the rear wheels)with rubbing noise. couple weeks later i was reversing into a parking stall at work and the rear brakes locked up totally on their own....long story short..check your e-brake integrity..pull the rear hubs and make sure all your springs and hardware are in tact.

the rear has disc primary breaking system...and drum parking break on the inside of the discs.

thanks punisher808, I was thinking possibly something in that line but why would applying brakes quiet it when the parking brake is not affected by braking?
I will have to pull rear wheels and check for potential problems you refer too.
Thanks again
